Sibling to a Superstar

There’s a lot to live up to when you are a half-brother to three stakes-winners and one of them is a legend.

There’s a lot to live up to when you are a half-brother to three stakes-winners and one of them is a legend.

A new arrival for Makybe this spring is this colt by champion sire Street Cry (IRE) from their celebrated producer Tugela (USA), the dam of champion racehorse Makybe Diva, Group Two winner Musket and Group Three winner Valkyrie Diva.

A strong leggy individual, he has delighted Tony Santic and the team at Makybe, who have enjoyed so much success with this outstanding family.

Both Makybe Diva and Valkyrie Diva missed when covered last year so will not be having foals this spring, making his safe delivery all the more special.

Tugela will attempt to add a fourth stakes-winner to her resume on Saturday at Caulfield when her three year-old son Shadowofexcellence lines up in the Group Three MRC Norman Robinson Stakes over 2000 metres.

A $1.2 million Inglis Easter purchase for Patinack Farm, Shadowofexcellence(pictured) is raced by Patinack in partnership with the Makybe Racing and Breeding Syndicate, John Hawkes and his team charged with getting the best from this high profile Redoute’s Choice colt.

Third on debut at Geelong on September 10 and then a close third to Eclair Surprise in the Listed VRC UCI Stakes over 1800 metres, Shadowofexcellence gives every indication that staying will be his forte so the 2000 metres of this assignment looks ideal.

If he runs up to expectation, the Group One VRC Victoria Derby will loom large on the horizon.
