Zenyatta Stays Unbeaten

3 October 2010

Street Hero’s sire Street Cry has well and truly asserted himself as a global super stallion. He is the sire of the highest  rated Timeform femail in the US, Zenyatta, mainted her unbeaten record winning her 19th straight victory in the Oak Tree's Lady's Secret Stakes (G1) at Hollywood Park on the 2nd of October.

Shocking may have fallen a head short of giving Street Cry (Ire) another Group 1 win in the Turnbull Stakes however Street Cry's masterpiece Zenyatta made up for it when recording her 19th straight victory in Oak Tree's Lady's Secret Stakes (G1) at Hollywood Park.

As has become her custom of late the 6yo mare looked to make hard work of recording her third success in the Lady's Secret, charging home under regular rider Mike Smith to nail 3yo filly Switch by half a length with another 4 3/4-lengths back to the dead-heaters Satans Quick Chick (Sky Mesa) and Moon de French (Malibu Moon).

"She seems to know where the wire is at and she likes to make it a little dramatic," Smith told BloodHorse. "It's just incredible. She's just amazing.''

Trainer John Shirreffs said he is feeling the pressure of keeping the modern day marvels record perfect.

"The fans really demonstrate how I feel inside," Shirreffs said. "I can't really show those emotions, so I really enjoy them getting into it because that's exactly how I feel."
"She has so much heart, she digs down every time."

She's done some amazing things the last sixteenth of a mile. Her heart must be huge."

Zenyatta equals the 19 straight wins set by Peppers Pride, who raced against New Mexico bred opposition before she retired unbeaten in 2008.

The daughter of Street cry (Ire) now heads to Churchill Downs to defend her Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) crown.

A $60,000 purchase from the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling sale, Zenyatta is out of the Kris S. mare Vertigineux who had previously produced the Grade 1 winner Balance (Thunder Gulch).

Street Cry stood for four seasons in Australia but did not return for seasons 2007 and 2008.

He returned last year covering his best ever book of mares, which included Makybe Diva's dam Tugela and Takeover Target's and predatory Pricer's dam Shady Stream. In addition he served such luminaries as Virage de Fortune, Serenade Rose, Unearthly, Sixty Seconds, Regal Cheer, Recurring, Queen Of The Hill, Plagiarise, Rena's lady, Mnemosyne, Fashions Afield, High Heels, Elegant Fashion, Duelling Girl and Fragmentation.
