MAKYBE sells smart Inglis Graduate

17 July 2010

The Racenet Bloodstock colours tasted success for the very first time at Caulfield on Saturday when two year-old Lonhro colt Breitling raced clear for a commanding win in the open juvenile event over 1000 metres, collecting a valuable $100,000 Inglis incentive bonus.

The Robert Smerdon trained Breitling (pictured Kelly Tompson) was heavily backed when second at Flemington on debut and stripped fitter and more experienced for the outing with many punters keen to stick with him.

He jumped brilliantly from an outside gate then crossed to sit just behind the leaders and when asked for an effort in the straight by Glen Boss, Breitling bounded away to win by the best part of two lengths.

“With the Inglis bonus it's a huge incentive – another $100,000 jumps in,” Smerdon said.

“He has good natural ability and the best nature. Hopefully he's up to better class.

“I’m inclined to keep him going and take the races as they come.”

Breitling (pictured as a yearling) was selected and purchased by Racenet Bloodstock for $50,000 from the Makybe draft at the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne and has returned connections a healthy $155,300 from just two starts.

“He wasn’t an expensive horse as he was bought before the Lonhro’s started winning everything, so it’s been a great result and I’m just delighted for all the owners,” said Racenet’s Craig Tompson.

Breitling is the third foal and second winner for ill-fated Flying Spur mare Spring Flyte, who died last year.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Behind, Spring Flyte is from the family of Group winning speedsters Happy Giggle and Living Spirit.

Breitling is yet another winner for Darley based Lonhro, who has had an amazingly good season that will see him finish third on the Australian General Sires List with his oldest progeny just four year-olds.

Tara Madgwick - Breednet.

Footnote: Congratulations to breeders Chris and Jane Barham who consigned MAKYBE to sell Breitling at the 2009 Melbourne Premier Sales.
