Isles of Avalon – 2YO Listed and G3 placegetter in SA

With the South Australian carnival being targeted by many astute Victorian and NSW trainers, there is no such thing as cheap Black Type anymore. That said, Isles of Avalon can now boast two black type performances from two trips across the border. Having flashed home in the 1050m Listed Dequetteville Stakes at Morphettville and only missed out by a neck to run 3rd, trainer Andrew Noblet set the filly for the 1200m Group 3 two weeks later and again the filly showed well above average ability. Pushed wide by the leader as they came off the bend, the filly lost valuable ground to the eventual winner that shot up on the inside but showed good strength to hold onto third place.

Bred by Makybe, the daughter of Toronado was picked as one to “retain to race” from an early date. Being a mid-November foal, the full sister to Group 3 placed and city winning mare Rainbiel, Isles of Avalon was always going to be given time to mature and develop on the hills below Tony’s house.

The filly has headed to the paddock for a brief spell and will be brought back in, with one eye firmly on some of the riches for 3YO fillies over the Spring Carnival.
