Exciting win on debut for Smytzer
With a pedigree to die for, Smytzer more than lived up to expectation with a smart victory on debut at Werribee over 1100m. Putting his rivals to the sword as they came off the bend, Luke Nolan eased up on the son of I Am Invincible to cross the line a length and half clear of his nearest rival. Having trained his half-brother Il Cavallo to multiple city wins and running third in the Carlyon stakes at Moonee Valley, it’s a family that Peter Moody knows only too well.
Smytzer is also a half-brother to Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Amicus and stakes-winner Cheer Leader – being the eighth winner from nine foals to race from stakes-placed Gold Chant, a half-sister to world champion sprinter and sire Starspangledbanner.
Passed in at Easter with sale being conducted online due to Covid restrictions, this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise with the farm retaining the colt 100%. He will now hopefully have one more start before being set for a spring campaign.
