Purrealist progeny purring along nicely…

6 September 2011

The hype continues surrounding MAKYBEresident stallion Purrealist with the first of his 2yos presented at the official trials at Cranbourne this morning. Purrplexed, ridden by Jamie Mott and trained by leading trainer Danny O'Brien is the first Victorian 2yo trial winner for the season.

It's a case of deja vu for O’Brien who selected and trained Purrealist and has been an avid supporter of the stallion since retiring to stud. O’Brien is one of many leading trainers to secure a Purrealist yearling for their stable.

Averaging nearly 10 times his service fee at the major yearling sales earlier this year, Purrealist progeny have been the talk amongst the experts. Gai Waterhouse, Peter Moody, Lee Freedman, John Hawkes, Rick Hore-Lacy and Gillian Heinrich are among some of the leading trainers with upcoming Purrealist 2yos in their respective stables.

MAKYBE owner and Purrealist shareholder Tony Santic has sent a number of his top mares to the stallion in recent years including Gold Anthem, the dam of the MAKYBE bred sensation Starspangledbanner. This year will be no exception.

"We are really excited about how well his progeny have been received and the feedback so far has been fantastic… to see his first 2yo come out and win a trial this morning is really exciting.  I'm glad Des and I retained a couple to race ourselves, Santic enthused.

“We've committed another 15 or so of our mares to him again this season. He throws such lovely types and the returns have been great at the sales. We can only hope they continue to do their job on race day now and it's looking pretty good”. Santic continued.

In racing circles first impressions count so this win can only be described as a good indication of things to come for Purrealist’s 2yos and backs up recent comments made by trainers  Rick Hore-Lacy and Gai Waterhouse. On the 16th August Gai Waterhouse commented “I am absolutely delighted with him, he is the biggest 2yo in the stable and a very exciting 2yo prospect”. Waterhouse was referring to the 2yo colt out of mare Fashion Week while Hore-Lacy described Purrealist as “an exciting young stallion” on Radio Sport National’s program, The Thoroughbred on 24th July this year.

Purrealist stands his fourth season at MAKYBE this year for a fee of $8,000 plus GST. This fee remains unchanged from his previous three seasons. For bookings contact MAKYBE on 03 5265 1506 or Stephan Putter on 0400 041 523.

MAKYBE has kicked off spring in winning form having bred the impressive stakes winner Specter who took out the Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes over 1400m at Flemington Racecourse last Saturday. The Nadeem colt is out of resident mare Woman In White.

Release Ends.
