MAKYBE PUTS PURREALIST FIRST
8 May 2008
Owner and breeder, Tony Santic, today announced he will stand MAKYBE'S first stallion, PURREALIST, at his magnificent property MAKYBE located just outside Geelong, Victoria.
PURREALIST, one of Australia's best three year old sprinters has been retired to stud following his racing career being short lived due to injury.
From only 5 starts and never out of a place, PURREALIST was a winner from day one saluting the judge at his debut to racing. Group placed at two and a Group winner at 3, so impressive was Purrealist's win in the G3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude at Caulfield, he was rated second favourite for the G1 Caulfield Guineas behind Weekend Hussler. Two weeks before he had his chance he suffered leg injury.
Following his Guineas Prelude win jockey Hugh Bowman who rode Purrealist to victory was most impressed describing him as having the "perfect action and temperament to win major races".
There is no doubt Purrealist has the pedigree. He is by Storm Cat's brilliant son Tale Of The Cat, who himself has sired 44 stakes winners worldwide including Group 1 winners Glamour Puss and Lion Heart and Group Winners, Falkirk and Scardee Cat. His dam Surrealist has had 4 named foals, all winners.
A half brother to multiple Group 1 winner Racing to Win, PURREALIST will stand this season for $8,800 (incl GST) and serve a strictly quality group of broodmares.
"We have been preparing and waiting for some time to ensure that the first stallion we stand here at MAKYBE, is the right stallion. This horse ticks all boxes. He has the pedigree, looks, conformation and the performance to pass on to his progeny.
I believe Purrealist will be an enormous success as a stallion and the Makybe team will be giving him their full support. I will be sending him a significant number of my quality mares; you never know he might even be suited to Makybe Diva!"
Trainer Danny O'Brien has always had absolute confidence in the horse. "I selected him as a yearling for Tony knowing he was looking for a stallion to stand at Makybe. He is undoubtedly the best colt I have trained and I believe he will be an enormous asset to the Victorian breeding industry"
MAKYBE has recently recruited the services of a new Stud Manager, Geoff Leitch, to lead the team whilst highly regarded Bloodstock Manager, Dean Harvey will manage the entire bloodstock portfolio including mare bookings to Purrealist.
The MAKYBE Racing and Breeding operation was acquired by Tony Santic nearly 5 years ago. Once a sheep station, the 3200 acre property has been developed in to a racing and breeding operation with facilities comparable to Australia's finest.
Having already tasted multiple Group 1 success as both an owner and breeder, the MAKYBE operation includes over 50 broodmares and 60 racehorses in work year round and now is ready to stand their first stallion.
