DIVA COLT TO SELL AT EASTER

1 July 2008
MAKYBE owner and breeder Tony Santic, accompanied by Cr Bruce Harwood, Mayor, Greater City of Geelong, today officially opened the doors to his 3200 acre property MAKYBE situated in Gnarwarre, Victoria.

Santic, familiar with the 3200 distance having experienced his champion mare, Makybe Diva's triple Melbourne Cup winning successes in 2003, 2004 and 2005, has every confidence his foundation stallion Purrealist will prove to be an asset to the Victorian Breeding Industry.

Councilor Bruce Harwood, Mayor of the Greater City of Geelong, officiated proceedings at MAKYBE by unveiling a bronze statue of Makybe Diva, situated at the entrance to the Stallion Barn. The Mayor and Santic then opened the Stallion Barn doors to an awaiting Purrealist.

Purrealist, a strong and athletic individual, complete with the genetic bloodlines making him compatible to a vast majority of mares, paraded around his new home taking his first look at the Diva in bronze, but will he meet her in the flesh?

"It's not out of the question. We are certainly considering it. I will be sending Purrealist a large number of my quality mares.

I have been waiting for the right stallion to stand at MAKYBE for the first time and I believe PURREALIST is it" Santic advised.

Leading trainer Danny O'Brien who selected Purrealist as a yearling for Santic saw his potential from day one.

"He was a lovely colt who showed his brilliance on the racetrack defeating the best of his age at the time. If his racing career wasn't short lived due to injury we could have had a lot more fun with Purrealist. I'm looking forward to training his offspring in the future. He was the best colt I have trained"

Form expert Dominic Beirne supported O'Brien's statement declaring at the time leading in to the Caulfield Guineas; Purrealist had the potential rating to be the only contender capable of stretching Weekend Hussler.

"Purrealist's potential rating was exactly equal to the rating that Weekend Hussler recorded in winning; given the tough run the 'Hussler' had that day, Purrealist would have given him a real run for his money" Beirne stated.

Due to Purrealist's upwardly-spiraling ratings pattern, his potential was blue sky. Had he raced on, Group 1 success was a near-certainty".

The MAKYBE Stallion Barn area, a $1m project, utilized the skills and services of a number of local suppliers and contractors who Santic has called upon since acquiring his property in 2002. The former sheep station has been transformed in to a state of the art Racing and Breeding operation comparable to Australia's finest.

Cr Bruce Harwood, Mayor, Greater City of Geelong commended the investment made in his local Geelong.

"The MAKYBE operation has always and continues to use local suppliers, contractors and resources. Racing is the 3rd largest industry in our state and it is fantastic to see a business like this calling on the Geelong community to assist in making it a success".

In just 3 years the MAKYBE breeding operation has already tasted success at the highest level, producing Group winners Arapaho Miss (Gr1 VRC Oaks) and Exceedingly Good (G3 VRC Maribyrnong Plate) and now looks forward to continuing their winning streak by adding Purrealist to the Stallion Barn.

With the potential to accommodate up to six stallions, the MAKYBE Stallion Barn constructed out of sandstone brick has five main entry points and is finished in Mountain Ash paneling. With rubber lined boxes and flooring, this state of the art facility is the showpiece of the MAKYBE operation.

Until today, MAKYBE has only accommodated Santic's racehorses and broodmares and is now officially open for business to outside customers.

Purrealist, a half brother to multiple Group 1 winner Racing To Win, was one of Australia's best three year old sprinters before being retired to stud and will stand this season at MAKYBE for $8,800.
