PURREALIST TOPS SALE IN TERMS OF VALUE

22 May 2010

PURREALIST (pictured at MAKYBE) a magnificent son of Tale of the Cat and the half brother to Racing To Win had his first weanlings sell at the Melbourne Great Southern Weanling Sale this week. Purrealist certainly made his mark with his weanlings catching the attention of the best judges in the country.

A $700,000 Easter yearling himself it is hardly a surprise Purrealist is producing such outstanding progeny for the sale ring.

Along with his ability to throw an outstanding type, the results showed what exceptional value Purrealist is at $8,000 (ex GST). His top lot sold for three times his service fee which was higher than any other first season sire represented including Magnus, Haradasun, Street Sense, Bernardini, Hard Spun, Any Given Saturday, Henny Hughes, Shinzig and Soldier's Tale.

The top priced Purrealist colt was out of Octagonal mare Osati bred by Bryan Maher from Spring View Park.  "He looked like an athlete from day one and always had a bit of presence about him. When he got to the sale he took it all in and thrived with many people telling us what a great colt he is," said Maher.

The strapping Purrealist colt (pictured - courtesy Stuart McCormick) was knocked down to experienced pin hooker Steve Jostlear from Ampulla Lodge. "I regard myself as a tough judge but I rated him a ten out of ten and he was the best horse in the sale in my view," said Jostlear

Another Purrealist weanling to catch the eye of the experienced pin hookers was the Purrealist - Portview colt. A flashy chestnut like his sire Purrealist, Gary Mudgway, from Grange Thoroughbreds purchased the colt. He was sold for 2.5 times service fee which is equal second among the first season sires behind the Purrealist- Osati colt. This colt again highlights Purrealist's exceptional value.

The small number of Purrealist weanlings on show at the Great Southern Sale this week was just a sample of Purrealist's first crop which featured a book of over 118 mares with over 25 Black type mares or producers of stakes winners. One of Purrealist's first crop heading to the yearling sales in 2012 is the half brother to Starspanglebanner (pictured).

Purrealist will stand his third season at MAKYBE in 2010 for a fee of $8,000 ex GST).
