Street Cry rounded off an amazing week of stud achievements when the filly Zenyatta stretched her unbeaten sequence to 14 by winning America's richest race, the $US5M Breeders' Cup Classic at California on Saturday.
This win came five days after shocking, by Street Cry, stayed best in Australia's richest race, the $5.5m Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington racecourse.
She is named for a recording album title of the rock band The Police, but Zenyatta is a name better known in racing as the Perfect Miss.
Not for the first time this year has the American racing public caused grandstands to vibrate under thunderous applause to special racing female. This time it was Zenyatta, as she made history in the showcase race to the 2009 $US 25.5 million ($27.5m) Breeders' Cup meeting, run in Los Angeles, California.
On Saturday she took on males for the first time, and there was no hiding place for her. The $US5m prize attached to the race, the richest run in North America, attracted the best older horses in training, with the 10 of the 11 opposing Zenyatta having proven quality as Group 1 winners.
Zenyatta came through the test to the hysterical delight of the crowd - reacting as it did in much the same way that Makybe Diva was received after her Melbourne Cup hat-trick.
Zenyatta's 14 -race career to date has netted $US 5,474,580 in stakes.
