HAYES STILL ENTHRALLED WITH FILLY DESPITE LAST START DEFEAT

27 November 2008
The David Hayes stable have already forgotten the last start performance of the handy filly Enthrall and suggest punters do the same when summing up the form for Thursday's Patchwood Imports 3YO Maiden Plate (1600m) at Bendigo.

Enthrall put up promising performances in the first two runs of her career then found herself racing under unsuitable conditions when seventh at Moonee Valley on November 14.

The daughter of Flying Spur was slowly away and ended up last in a race devoid of speed and where the rail at Moonee Valley was out five metres, making it extremely difficult for horses back in the pack to make ground quickly.

Enthrall was not knocked about in the run to the line but still managed to make up late ground to be only beaten 2.8 lengths but could have finished closer had she be ridden right out to the line.

"It was just one of those runs that you forget about straight away and move on," Hayes' stable foreman Bruno Rouge-Serret said.

"Nothing went her way but she still ran well enough so we have forgotten the run and pressed on with her campaign.

"Her work since has been pretty good and the drop back into a maiden race is perfect for her.

"We think she can end up being a good class filly for us and so far she's on the right track."

Owned and raced by Tony Santic's Makybe Racing Syndicate, Enthrall is by Flying Spur out of the New Zealand Stakes winner Sarah Vee.

Sarah Vee won the 2003 ARC Soliloquy Stakes, a race which makes the End Sweep mare capable of being mentioned in the same breath as Savannah Success, the dam of Cox Plate and Spring Champion Stakes winner Savabeel and the two impressive winners from last Saturday, Zavana and Arlington.
